Signs, Signs Everywhere Signs

This is NOT a post about our troops. It's a post about glorifying killing.

There's a picture making its way around Facebook. And I don't care for it. Here it is:

First, I'm ashamed of the fact that I know, personally, people who reposted this on their walls. Secondly, you have GOT to be kidding me.

I put this right in the propaganda category. I am ashamed of those who put signs like this up in an effort to mislead ignorant people and justify/glorify killing. I am NOT a fan of violence. I am opposed to it.

In my mind, this sign isn't supportive of American troops. It's supportive of killing. Plain and simple. It signifies that killing is something we should be proud of doing. It glorifies killing. It truly sickens me. Killing, for what ever reason, is not fun or funny or something of which we should be proud. That's the mentality of ignorance and fear and stupidity, the KKK and the like.

Although not written as an anti-war song, though, in a way, the inspiration was a type of war, I think of this song:

And I'm pretty sure this one needs to be heard everywhere:

It just may be time to get out those old LPs that you have in the attic, or that your parents or whomever have up there, and listen. Things are getting out of hand. And, contrary to the belief of those posting that sign, we are NOT better than everyone else on the planet.

Does killing in vengeance bring back those whom you are avenging? No. It does not. It doesn't change a thing other than someone else is now dead. The difference is that now, you are the murderer.

If you take this to mean I am down on the troops, you misunderstand. I'm not. I have relatives in the military- past and present. And I know how they feel about killing. In all honesty, I have never, NEVER, met a single military person who was involved in a war who told me how wonderful it was or how much they enjoyed killing another human being. I also have never met someone in the military who didn't come back changed after a war. War sucks.

I'm not sitting here with all the answers. I'm never sitting here with all the answers. But violence does breed violence. And I'd like to know where it is going to stop.

Can't we all just get along? :)

  1. Hmm..well..my husband is a former Marine..I personally do not find anything wrong with the sign. I don't have FB, so this is the first time I saw this. As a wife of a former Marine and living and breathing the lifestyle, yes, war sucks..however, that's their jobs. They protect us, and fight for us. ANYWAYS--getting off the soap box.. I do understand where your coming from. Blessings

    (great post!!!)

  2. I hear ya. I have former military people in my family and I have friends who chose that path as well. My point here is that I am totally, 100%, without a doubt against glorifying killing and I feel that that sign is doing just that. As I mentioned in the post, I've never ever met one single military man or woman, regardless of branch, who glorified the killing part. They were all changed in many ways, some of them dramatically. This is not a post about the troops though. Thanks

    1. I thought about this overnight..and discussed it with my husband..and after furthur review, I agree with you. My husband said that it didn't come from the Marines..no one likes killing..etc--however, he said, he wouldn't doubt that is what is thought..but no one would dare put that up..thanks for the thoughtful post. Blessings

(ps we are not on FB anymore..to much garbage)

    2. I figured as much. My first thought was that it was fake and my second was that, if it was real, the Marines certainly didn't put it up there. I went ahead with the post because, fake or not, people are posting it on their pages and I felt I needed to speak out. I don't blame you about not being on FB anymore. Sometimes, I think about chucking everything and living off the grid. Not that I'd survive. LOL Thanks!

    3. HA. We discuss going off the grid too..however, I CAN NOT AND WILL NOT SURVIVE WITHOUT CABLE TV or INTERNET, LOL. Did so for nearly 4 yrs.. thanks to living out in the middle of nowhereville. wink--anyways..thanks for the thoughtful posts..you sure make me think.

  3. I'm sure that "sign" was not on a highway somewhere. You can make those up, for example (http://www.says-it.com/churchsigns/) at that site. Most of the sayings on signs that turn up on Facebook are fakes. But I hear what you are saying. I saw it and wasn't crazy about the message either.

    1. I thought the very same thing. I also thought, IF it IS real, the Marines did not put it up there.

  4. I'm not in favor of killing and wars but apparently we all cannot just get along. These recent beheadings by Isis are so disturbing. When/how does it stop? I don't think it will end peacefully. Terrorists are pure evil and the only way I can think of to stop them is by more killing. We cannot stand back and watch them continue to behead human beings to feed their sick, pathetic ideologly. Truly, I abhor all this hatred going on in the world. It makes me sick.

    1. I think all of this would have been nipped in the bud with the least amount of killing had we just called in Rambo. Sheesh. :)

  5. I agree. Those beheadings...another one yesterday. It's horrible the little value they have for human life.

  6. I'm not 'pro killing' or for starting a war, but I'm not against the idea of defending ourselves either, when it's absolutely necessary. We can't just sit on our hands and let people run all over us.

    1. I agree. But I don't like it when we step in with that 'shoot first ask questions later' mentality either. I do realize we have to defend ourselves. But only when it's a true defending.
